Dear Mr. Collins,

RECO STRA SEP.3

20

I received your letter of 24th this morning and later had an interview with Dr. Parker in which I placed Mr. Severn's suggestion before him.

He tells me that he does not possess the Diploma of Public Health which, according to your advertisement, is a necessary qualification for the appointment of Bacteriologist and, moreover, prefers the position of Professor of Pathology to the University.

I have been asked to make appointments to fill sixteen posts on the University staff but up to the present have only been able to decide upon Dr. Parker and Mr. Ferguson, Professor of Education. I expect to be able to make six further appointments at least after the meeting of my Committee on the 30th instant, and the problem of securing passage to Hongkong is a most difficult one. The University asks for eleven of them immediately and for the remaining five by January next.

Ferguson, who came from India to join the Army, has hopes of obtaining a re-patriation passage but I have nothing else in hand.
